Guwahati schools asked not to conduct any exams during Ambubachi Mela

GUWAHATI, June 13: In the wake of upcoming Ambubachi Mela, the Inspector of Schools in Kamrup (Metro) district has directed schools not to conduct any examinations during this period to avoid any inconveniences to the students that may arise due to the heavy flow of devotees to Guwahati .

In an official letter addressed to authorities at all schools in the district, the Inspector of Schools said, “Schools are requested not to schedule any examination during 22nd June to 26th June, 2024 on account of Ambubachi. Further, if any schools have already scheduled examination on the above mentioned dates are hereby asked to re-schedule the examination”.

“It has been decided in order to avoid any inconveniences to the students which may arise due to heavy flow of devotees from all India to Guwahati Assam,” the letter read further.

The four-day-long yearly Ambubachi Mela celebrated at the Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati will be held from June 22 to June 26.

The Ambubachi Mela marks the annual menstruation course of the goddess Kamakhya, who is considered an incarnation of Goddess Shakti. The festival typically takes place in the month of June, during the monsoon season.

The festival celebrates the goddess Kamakhya’s fertility, and during this period, the temple remains closed for three days to allow the goddess to rest. On the fourth day, the temple reopens with grand celebrations and rituals.

Thousands of devotees, including ascetics, sadhus, and pilgrims from various parts of India and abroad, visit the temple to seek blessings.
