GUWAHATI, Nov 6: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will arrive in Guwahati on Friday for a two-day visit to Assam, marking a significant push towards infrastructure and industrial growth in the state.
On November 7 evening, the Finance Minister is set to inaugurate the Sati Radhika Shanti Udyan at the Brahmaputra Riverfront in Uzan Bazar, along with the Gateway of Guwahati’s modern Ferry Terminal and Jetty at Pan Bazaar. These projects are expected to enhance Guwahati’s intra-city connectivity and boost the city’s tourism potential.
The inaugural event will be attended by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, Public Health Engineering Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, and Transport Minister Charan Bora, among other dignitaries. Ahead of Sitharaman’s visit, Ministers Piyush Hazarika and Bimal Borah reviewed the final preparations at the sites to ensure smooth proceedings.
Before the inauguration, the Finance Minister will also visit the Jagiroad Semiconductor Project site, where she is scheduled to interact with around 300 local youths to discuss emerging opportunities in the semiconductor and manufacturing sectors. Discussions with the project’s chief executive engineer will cover critical aspects such as power supply, water availability, and security measures.
The semiconductor project, which is expected to be formally inaugurated in February 2026, is seen as a major stride towards Assam’s economic transformation, with the potential to create employment and strengthen the region’s position in India’s industrial map.
