This unit under the Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme implemented by National Health Mission was announced in union budget 2016-17 with an objective to provide free hemo-dialysis to the patients suffering from kidney related diseases.
At present the dialysis centre has a treatment area, dialyzer reprocessing area, waiting area and store room. 6 numbers of patients have already registered for treatment under this unit as unformed by the officials.
The hemo-dialysis centres under PM NDP have been implemented in Assam in public private partnership mode. M/s Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Limited, Chennai has been chosen through a detailed selection process by National Health Mission, Assam to implement the dialysis programme in Assam. There are 36 functional centers in the state of which Haflong Civil Hospital is the 37th centre.
The procedure for new registration, the patients may directly walk into the dialysis centres where the patient’s clinical documentation (past clinical history, viral screening details – HCV, HBsAG, HIV) are verified.
Then the patients are referred to the consultant nephrologist or government institution for advice on dialysis. Each empanelled nephrologist visits the centre fortnightly for advice to the patients suffering from kidney related diseases.
Senior dialysis technician allots treatment schedule to the patient based upon nephrologist advice. The centre will remain open on all days of a week except on Sunday from 9:30 am onwards. Each dialysis session usually takes 4-6 hours for completion, a press release added.
