Handloom Day Observed

DIPHU: The Handloom & Textiles Department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) celebrated 8th National Handloom Day at its guest house at Office of The Assistant Director, Handloom & Textiles here on Sunday.

Speaking of the importance of celebrating the day, the Assistant Director, Handloom & Textiles, Tapash Kumar Das said the National Handloom Day is celebrated on August 7 in India to recognize the contribution of the handloom industry in socio-economic development and create awareness about the sector.

Apart from being a significant employment source in rural areas, the handloom sector is also a key player in women’s empowerment as roughly 70 percent of all weavers and allied workers are women.
