DIPHU, April 17: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma laid stress on education on his two day visit to Diphu, Karbi Anglong on Thursday.
Addressing the gathering at Government Boys HS School Playground, the CM said, “In Karbi Anglong there is a medical college and a cancer hospital, sainik school, an engineering college, veterinary college and agriculture college are coming up. It is necessary that the children of Karbi Anglong should be able to study in these educational establishments. So, right from Anganwadi Centres to primary education, higher secondary to colleges we have to create a conducive education environment. If the boys and girls can be inspired to study at Anganwadi Centres they will be able to go forward in life.”
He further said, “In Assamese there’s a saying ‘Ji mula barhe, tar dota pate cin’- when the children are moulded at a tender age they will progress. For this purpose Anganwadi Centres will receive play materials, teaching aids, meals and others will be distributed.”
He also said that Rs 108 crore would be spent for infrastructure and the maiden flyover in Diphu stretching 1.4 km will be completed by December this year. By January the construction of the Cancer Centre hospital will be completed.
Earlier, the CM landed at the Helipad at Taralangso from where he proceeded to Kajir Ronghangpi Memorial Guest House where he held a meeting with former leaders of the armed organisations regarding the full implementation of the clauses of the 2021 peace accord. The meeting lasted for more than an hour during which former members of armed organisations placed their demands and grievances.
It is worth mentioning here that on September 4, 2021 the six Karbi armed organisations namely Karbi Longri North Cachar Hills Liberation Front (KLNLF), People’s Democratic Council of Karbi Longri (PDCK), United People’s Liberation Army (UPLA) and three factions of Karbi People’s Liberation Tigers (KPLT) signed a tripartite agreement between Central government and State government.
Addressing the media after coming out of the meeting the CM said, “The meeting was fruitful and within the ambit of the Indian Constitution for implementation of each and every clause of MoS 2021. We found ways during the discussion as to how the clauses in the MoS can be implemented fully.”
The CM also informed that the leaders have urged the State government to give ST recognition to Karbis living in the plain districts of Assam as those Karbis in the hill districts and to set-up a Welfare Council for them. The issues will be settled within the next three to four months.
On the notification by the State government to use Assamese for official purpose, the CM clarified that the matter would be discussed with Karbi Lammet Amei (KLA) – Karbi literary body.
On the setting up of Sainik School and Compressed Biogas Plant (CBG) in Karbi Anglong the CM said, “By setting up Sainik School and CBG plant here and if there are oppositions then what can I say. With tea plantations in other parts of Assam, people have economically benefited. Likewise, if every family plants Napier grass to convert it for biogas fuel then people will have income. There will not be a single poor person in Karbi Anglong.”
The CM added, “Karbi Anglong has sufficient land and if factories come up then KAAC will get more revenue. The government is doing it for the benefit of the people and in spite of that, if there is opposition to set up a Medical College, Cancer institute and Sainik School then we will stop doing it.”
The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Member (CEM), KAAC Tuliram Ronghang; MP Amarsing Tisso and several others.
