HOJAI, Jan 25: Hojai district, a vibrant symbol of unity in diversity, celebrated its 10th District Day on Sunday with exuberant festivities that highlighted its rich cultural heritage and developmental achievements.
The celebrations began at 8.30 AM with a majestic cultural procession from Kachari Maidan in Srimanta Sankardev Nagar, which energised the entire area. The procession drew over 3,000 participants and featured colourful folk dances, traditional attire and eye-catching tableaux representing the district’s diverse linguistic and tribal heritage. The presence of renowned Assamese singer Barnali Kalita added a special charm to the event, captivating the large gathering.
Several dignitaries graced the occasion, including District Commissioner Bidut Bikash Bhagwati, Hojai MLA Ramkrishna Ghosh, Lumding MLA Sibu Mishra, Public Prosecutor Amar Jyoti Saikia, social worker Habib Mohammad Chaudhary, Arjun Majumdar, Ashok Kejriwal, Munwar Hussain, Anup Kumar Deb and Hojai Municipal Board Chairperson Chaturthi Rani Biswas, further amplifying the enthusiasm of the celebrations. Various government departments presented impressive tableaux depicting the district’s journey from ancient Namghars and Gurusthans to modern development schemes.
At around 11 AM, the open session commenced at Kachari Maidan with the rendition of the State song. Addressing the gathering, the District Commissioner highlighted Hojai’s glorious history, cultural harmony and recent developmental strides. One of the major highlights of the programme was the felicitation of individuals from various fields, including young achievers for their contributions to society. On the occasion, the district administration also unveiled a coffee table book titled “Unity Amidst Diversity: Our Hojai”, aimed at preserving and showcasing the district’s rich cultural legacy.
The celebration concluded on a high note with soulful performances by Barnali Kalita before thousands of spectators, followed by the national anthem, symbolising social harmony and unity. Posthumously, five eminent personalities—Jugal Kishore Kedia, Pandit Jiban Ram Barman, Uma Phukan, Rahim Uddin Ahmed and Syed Abdul Sattar, were honoured for their invaluable contributions to the growth and development of Hojai district with their family members receiving the honours.
The programme received widespread appreciation from people across the district, marking the 10th District Day as a memorable celebration of unity, culture and progress.
