HOJAI, Feb 10: In view of the Assam Assembly Elections 2026, Hojai District Commissioner Bidyut Bikash Bhagwati has issued directives to maintain law and order and ensure peaceful polling in the district. The order invokes Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) 2023, Section 21 of the Arms Act 1959 and Section 134-B of the Representation of the People Act 1951.
All licensed arms holders must deposit firearms and ammunition at the nearest police station within 10 days. Carrying or displaying any firearm or lethal weapon in public areas, polling stations, or their vicinity is strictly prohibited until the conclusion of elections. Deposited arms will be returned after election results based on receipts issued by police stations.
Exemptions apply to Central Armed Police Forces, police personnel, security guards of banks and registered athletes of the National Rifle Association, who must obtain separate permission letters. Strict legal action will follow any violation.
