Hojai Girls’ College Observes International Mother Tongue Day

HOJAI, Feb 23: 
International Mother Tongue Day was celebrated in Hojai Girls’ College on Tuesday with a great fervour. The program was organised by the department of Bengali in association with Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan, Hojai branch and Assam Nagarik Mancha.

The program was presided over by Promode Ranjan Das, president, Nikhil Bharat Banga Sahitya Sammelan, Hojai branch and the dais was shared by Bijoy Chakraborty, general secretary, Assam Nagarik Mancha; Sumita Debnath, vice principal of the college and Amar Chand Dey, ex-chairman of Hojai Municipal Board.

The program started with the lighting of a lamp by the president of the program followed by a song – ‘Moder Gorob Moder Asha’ which was sung by the students of the Bengali department as the inaugural song. The welcome address was presented by Dr Pijush Nandi, HoD Bengali.

The program was addressed by students of the college – Jaylalita Das, Sonali Dutta and Dr Ghana Kanta Saikia, assistant professor, department of Assamese; Kashinath Chouhan, HoD, Hindi; Bijoy Chakraborty and Promode Ranjan Das. The vote of thanks was extended by Dr Jayanta Biswas, assistant professor of Bengali department.
