Illegal livestock transport foiled at Jagiroad, one arrested

35 cattle rescued during police operation on NH-27

JAGIROAD, Dec 18: Jagiroad police, acting on a tip-off, arrested a man and rescued 35 cattle that were being illegally transported on National Highway 27 at Palahguri under Jagiroad police station in Morigaon district this morning.

The incident occurred at around 7 AM when police intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 TC 8355. The arrested person has been identified as Jainuddin of Rupahi in Nagaon district. According to police sources, the cattle were being transported from Rupahi to Meghalaya via NH-27 in violation of the Livestock Transport Act.

After completing necessary formalities, the police handed over the rescued cattle to Jyoti Go-Sala in Nagaon for safety and care.

It may be mentioned that earlier on December 13, the police had also rescued nine cattle being illegally transported and apprehended one accused in a similar operation.
