TEZPUR, Dec 2: An information centre of recent technologies was opened under Fisheries Science at Bhalukjaroni village, Balipara Development Block, Sonitpur district recently.
The centre was opened by students of College of Fisheries, Raha, Nagaon under Rural Fisheries Work Experience Programme (RFWEP), which is going on under the supervision of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Napam, Sonitpur.
RFWEP programme is a course activity of final year students of College of Fisheries, Raha where they spent two months at rural areas to gain practical knowledge about different farming systems and to spread awareness about recent technologies of Fisheries Science among fish farmers.
The centre was inaugurated by Dr Dipak Sarmah, professor, College of Fisheries, Raha, who was the chief guest of the programme.
An exhibition of different models and posters of fishery technology was demonstrated in the centre.
The programme was attended by 42 fish farmers of Bhalukjaroni and nearby villages.
Dr Ranjit Bordoloi, SMS (Fisheries Science), Krishi Vigyan Kendra Sonitpur gave the welcome speech and elaborated about the objective of the programme. The final year students of College of Fisheries, Raha – Monirul, Lakhya, Shaina, Nisha and Niharika gave a brief presentation about different activities done under RFWEP Programme.
Ajimun Nisha, assistant professor, College of Fisheries, Raha explained about the importance of the Fisheries Information Centre.
Moon Moon Basumatary, SMS (Plant Protection), Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Sonitpur praised the students and villagers for their continuous efforts for the development of the fisheries and agriculture sector in the area.
Dhanjit Nath, fishery development officer of District Fisheries Office in his speech explained about different new schemes of department of Fisheries, Assam under Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and urged farmers to take benefit of the schemes.
Dr Dipak Sarmah, in his speech, praised the students and their host farmers for organising the programme.
The programme was also attended by Dr Namita Dutta, SMS (Soil Science), Sarmistha Borgohain, programme assistant (Computer Science) of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Napam, Sonitpur.
