DIBRUGARH, July 27: On Thursday, the New Delhi to Dibrugarh IndiGo flight 6E 2031 faced yet another diversion to Agartala airport due to poor visibility at Mohanbari airport in Dibrugarh. Similarly, the Guwahati to Dibrugarh IndiGo flight 6E 2652 also encountered difficulty in landing at Dibrugarh airport due to the same reason.
According to sources, both flights had to be rerouted to Agartala, leading to inconvenience for passengers. This has not been an isolated incident, as similar occurrences have happened in the past, resulting in diversions to alternative airports.
The ongoing runway extension work at Dibrugarh airport has impacted flight operations for the last few months. The unavailability of the Instrument Landing System (ILS) at Mohanbari airport, caused by the ongoing runway merging work, has contributed to the challenging landing conditions.
An IndiGo official emphasized that passenger safety is of utmost importance and assured that they are not compromising on safety measures.
The completion of the Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) for the ILS system was originally scheduled for June 3 but had to be delayed due to adverse weather conditions. The ILS system plays a vital role in providing navigation assistance to aircraft during the landing phase.
As the situation persists, passengers continue to face inconvenience due to the frequent diversions and the lack of ILS facilities. Authorities are working to address the issue and ensure safer and more efficient air travel for passengers to Dibrugarh airport.
