Inter-district teachers’ debate held in Sivasagar

SIVASAGAR, May 19: The Sivasagar District Samagra Siksha has taken a commendable initiative to enhance teachers’ awareness of teaching-learning strategies by organising an annual inter-district debating competition for teachers from primary to senior secondary schools. This year’s debate focused on the topic – Teachers’ failure to gauge learners’ psychology is an impediment to effective teaching, held at T R G Town HS School, Sivasagar.

The competition was inaugurated by Debajyoti Gogoi, inspector of schools, Sivasagar Circle, in the presence of former deputy director of Secondary Education, Abdul Zelil, senior journalist Manoj Kumar Borthakur, Bhairav Munda, Anamuddin Ahmed, and principals Jitu Barua, Pranob Baruah, and Manju Chetia, along with other guests. Dr Saumerjyoti Mahanta, principal of Sivasagar Commerce College and a renowned writer, presided over the session. Prof Ajoy Gogoi from Moran Mahila Mahavidyalaya, Prof Sivaprasad Mili from Sivasagar Girls’ College, and NDTV Upper Assam bureau chief Kaustov Moni Kakoty served as judges.

In the debate competition, Jahnabi Konwar Borah of Kakajan Bagan MV School, Jorhat, clinched the first prize, which included Rs 10,000 in cash and trophies. The second prize was awarded to Prahelika Saikia of Banmukh HS School, Sivasagar, while the third prize went to Junmoni Baruah of Rastriya HS School, Tinsukia. The second and third prizes carried Rs 7,000 and Rs 5,000 each, along with mementos.

Participating schools from Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Charaideo, and Sivasagar made the competition a success, with over 45 schools joining in.
