MARGHERITA, Nov 25: The ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’ was observed on Tuesday at the Margherita Block Conference Hall with an awareness programme organised by the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Margherita Sub-Divisional Branch in association with the Internal Complaint Committee of Margherita College.
The event focused on adolescent girls’ health awareness and fostered discussions on issues of violence and oppression against women. Pabitra Borgohain, Secretary of the IRCS Margherita Sub-Divisional Branch, outlined the aims and objectives of the programme, while Papori Gogoi, Director of Kidzee Sunshine High School, Margherita moderated the proceedings.
Prominent social worker Jyotish Rai, faculty members of Margherita College including Dr Runjun Saikia, Deepashree Das Sarkar, Madhumita Dev and Kasturi Nath, along with girl students from Margherita College and other distinguished community members, attended the event. Advocate Wise Imran and Dr Dipen Borathakur served as resource persons, sharing insights and guidance on women’s rights and protection measures.
Over 200 women and students participated in the programme, highlighting the community’s engagement and commitment to creating awareness about gender-based violence, promoting safety and empowering women through education and dialogue.
