International Seminar Held At Biswanath College

BISWANATH CHARIALI, April 17: An international seminar on ‘New Trends in Contemporary Life and Literature’ organised by the department of Nepali, Biswanath College in collaboration with Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy was held at Ripunjay Knowledge Hub on April 14. The seminar was catalyzed by Assam Nepali Natya Sammelan, Bharatiya Sahitya Pratisthan and Devanagarik Sahitya Prakashan. The day-long programme began with lighting of ceremonial lamps by Bishnu Shastry followed by floral tribute in front of the portrait of freedom fighter Prasad Singh Subba by Prakash Subba. The inaugural session that began with a chorus was chaired by Chandramani Upadhyayay. Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma, principal of Biswanath College offered a welcome address wherein Hem Kumar Gautam, HoD of Nepali department forwarded opening remarks. Chhatraman Subba, president of Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy delivered the inaugural speech. Dr. Govinda Raj Bhattarai, former professor and HoD of English, Tribhuvan University, eminent critic forwarded the keynote speech in the inaugural session. The inaugural session was followed by plenary session with Gyan Bahadur Chetry in the chair wherein prof Anjana Wasti, former HoD, English, Tribhuvan University, prof Kumar Prasad Koirala, former HoD, Nepali department, Tribhuvan University, prof Vishnu S Rai, former professor of English, Tribhuvan University and Bijay Hitan Magar, Eco-writer and environmentalist from UK presented their seminar papers. The plenary session was followed by a technical session that was held with Gyan Bahadur Chetry in the chair. Dr. Jamadagni Upadhyaya graced the technical session as rapporteur wherein Leena Hazarika, Indrajit Kalita, Purna Subba, Sanjib Kumar Chetry, Binod Subedi, Paban Chetry, Dr. Tilak Sarma, Pranjal Pratim Bora and Anjan Baskota presented seminar papers in the academic session. The valedictory function was held with Dr. Chinta Mani Sharma in the chair and was attended by Dr. Khemraj Nepal, Madan Thapa, Dr. Deben Sapkota, Tilak Sarma, Kanchan Chetry, Bilok Sarma as guests wherein the certificates were presented. All the proceedings of the international seminar were carried out by Anjan Baskota, secretary, Freedom Fighter Prasad Singh Subba Memorial Academy. Purna Kumar Sarma, chief secretary of Assam Nepali Natya Sammelan offered the vote of thanks. A poetry session was held with Chhattraman Subba that was followed by valedictory session.
