HOWRAGHAT, Dec 29: The playground of Langhin Pamgaon Higher Secondary School came alive with cultural assertion and social dialogue on Monday as the second day of the mega joint annual session of five prominent Bodo organisations unfolded.
The three-day event, being held from December 28 to 30, marks a rare convergence of the Kachari Samaj (75th annual session), United Bodo People’s Organisation (4th session), All Bodo Employees’ Association (36th session), All Bodo Farmers’ Association (27th session) and the Bodo Cine Art Association (3rd session).
The day began with a ceremonial display of organisational unity as the presidents of the five bodies—Dalsing Basumatary, Dilip Daimari, Jaydhwaj Khakhlari, Tanuram Daimari and Joungsar Basumatary—jointly hoisted their respective flags to formally open the day’s programme.
Vice-president of the Kachari Samaj, Sukursing Basumatary, performed Shahid Tarpan in memory of those who sacrificed their lives for the community.
In a symbolic gesture promoting peace and harmony, Sahitya Akademi awardee Premananda Mosahary and Dalsing Basumatary released white pigeons into the sky.
The event souvenir, ‘SWRJI’, was formally released by Sahitya Akademi award winner Rituraj Basumatary.
An awareness session held in the afternoon was chaired by Dalsing Basumatary, with Assam Gaurav awardee Manoj Kumar Basumatary as the guest speaker.
Basumatary, a former banker-turned-entrepreneur from Tezpur, spoke on the importance of economic self-reliance and shared his experience of setting up a scientific piggery farm after leaving a banking career. He said the venture has created direct employment for around 50 youths and urged the community to adopt scientific farming practices to address unemployment and strengthen the rural economy.
The day concluded with an interactive session involving intellectuals and community leaders, who deliberated on the future roadmap for the Bodo community in Karbi Anglong, with emphasis on social integration and cultural preservation.
