DIPHU, Dec 19: Dima Hasao is set to host the Judima Festival 2025 from December 20 to 22 at Gunjung in Assam’s hill district, inviting people from all walks of life to experience the rich cultural heritage, inclusive development and growing tourism potential of the region.
Centred around Judima, the Geographical Indication-tagged traditional rice wine of the Dimasa tribe, the festival showcases the community’s deep-rooted traditions while highlighting its journey towards self-reliance, entrepreneurship and sustainable development.
The event seeks to blend cultural preservation with modern aspirations, reflecting Dima Hasao’s evolving identity.
The three-day festival will feature Judima tasting sessions and competitions, along with a vibrant lineup of traditional Dimasa music and dance performances.
Folk songs such as Dishru ni and Johaya ni, rhythmic drum beats, children’s musical presentations like Khumi damba, and special cultural showcases including Bagauba will offer visitors an immersive glimpse into the living traditions of the Dimasa people.
Exhibitions and local stalls will be a key attraction, displaying indigenous handicrafts such as Kram khuba and Muri khuba, traditional seeds, organic hill produce and premium Dima Hasao coffee.
These exhibits underline the district’s progress in livelihood generation, sustainable practices and cultural entrepreneurship.
Set against the scenic backdrop of Gunjung’s hills, the festival brings together culture, nature and development, reinforcing Dima Hasao’s emergence as an important cultural and eco-tourism destination in the Northeast.
The theme of the event celebrates Dimasa identity, community pride and inclusive growth.
