DIPHU, June 21: The 9th International Day of Yoga (IDY), 2023 was commemorated with great enthusiasm in Karbi Anglong district. The event took place at the Karbi Anglong Sports Association (KASA) indoor stadium in Diphu on Wednesday.

The chief guest of the occasion, Pijush Hazarika, minister of water resources, information and public relations, and parliamentary affairs, inaugurated the yoga program by lighting a lamp. He was accompanied by notable dignitaries including chief executive member (CEM) of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), MLAs Bidyasing Engleng and Dorsing Ronghang, and several executive members of KAAC.

During his speech, minister Hazarika expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for popularising India’s ancient tradition and culture of yoga on the international stage. He emphasised that yoga is not just an exercise but a way of life, deeply rooted in India’s rich Vedic heritage that dates back 5,000 years.

Minister Hazarika highlighted the holistic benefits of yoga, stressing that it combines mental, physical, and spiritual aspects, unlike ordinary physical exercises. He encouraged everyone to incorporate yoga into their lives to enhance mental strength and overall well-being.

The event commenced with a mass yoga performance, following the common yoga protocol set by the government. Participants engaged in various yoga practices such as prayers, breathing exercises, asanas, pranayama, and meditation, guided by yoga experts from the Art of Living Ashram in Diphu.

The program, organised by the district administration, District Health Society, and National Ayush Mission of Karbi Anglong, revolved around this year’s theme “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam/Har Angan Yoga: Let’s Take Yoga to Every Home.”

The event witnessed the participation of senior officials from KAAC and the district administration, representatives from the Art of Living Ashram, sports organisations, security personnel, media personnel, teachers, and students. Their collective presence contributed to the success of the International Day of Yoga celebration in Karbi Anglong.
