HOWRAGHAT, March 20: The Karbi Anglong District Bodo Goanbura Association (KADBGA) held its 17th annual one-day convention in Langhin on Friday, marking a significant step towards social reform within the community. The gathering concluded with resolutions aimed at addressing deep-rooted social issues, including polygamy, child marriage and superstitions associated with witch-hunting.
The event began with the ceremonial hoisting of the organisational flag by KADBGA president Munindra Narzary, followed by an open public meeting where community leaders and representatives discussed the future development of the Bodo community. The convention saw the participation of Chief Guest Bilimohan Khakhlari, Executive Member of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, along with several hundred village headmen who attended from different regions, including Howraghat, Langhin, Phuloni, Diphu and Dengaon.
A key outcome of the convention was a collective pledge to modernise social practices. The association formally resolved to combat harmful superstitions that often lead to violence and branding of individuals as witches, ensure the protection and education of minors and promote stable and progressive family structures.
Community leaders stressed the importance of unity and vigilance in achieving peace and development across economic, educational and cultural spheres. The meeting also focused on the overall development of the Bodo people residing in Karbi Anglong.
The association announced that the 18th annual convention will be hosted under the Daima Daicha Regional Branch in Howraghat next year.
