Karbi Anglong Gears Up For Nationwide Pulse Polio Immunization

DIPHU, Dec 9: The additional chief medical & health officer family welfare, Diphu, has announced the dates to conduct the nationwide pulse polio immunization programme for Karbi Anglong (KA) district.

The announcement was made during a press conference held here at the additional chief medical and health officer (Family Welfare) office at Rongkhelan on Saturday.

The district immunisation officer (DIO), District Family Welfare Board, Dr Rupsing Hanse said that in line with the nationwide programme the pulse polio immunisation will be conducted on December 10 to administer two drops of polio vaccine to children from age 0 to 5 years to keep safe from the polio.

“This time the target below 5 years old is 92,493. In Howraghat area there are 37536 children, in Manja area there are 15941 children, in Bokajan area there are 22534 children, in Chowkihola area there are 8765 children and in Diphu urban there are 7717 children,” he added.

The DIO said ASHA and health workers will be engaged in the immunisation programme and there will be 6 mobile teams.

Hanse further mentioned that on December 11 and 12; ASHA and health workers will visit house to house to identify those children left out in the immunisation programme. These children will be administered polio drops.

The DIO also appealed to parents having children aged from 0 to 5 years to bring their children to the polio booth to administer polio drops to be safe from polio.

District Media Expert, NHM Monsun Singh; computer assistant, Universal Immunisation Programme, Sidharta Paul and deputy district extension & media officer, Biren Engti were present in the press conference.
