DIPHU, Dec 8: In line with the rest of other places of the country Pulse Polio Immunisation (PPI) programme under Sub-National Immunisation Day (SNID) was also started in Karbi Anglong district from Sunday.
The primary objective of the Pulse Polio Immunisation is to ensure comprehensive protection against poliomyelitis for all children within the age group of 0-5 years.
In this Polio immunisation campaign, polio drops have been provided in the entire district by ANM, ASHA, field workers, health workers and others in different polio booths covering all the parts of the district including model hospitals, Community Health Centres, Urban Health Centre, Primary Health Centres, Mini Primary Health Centres, MPHC (SD), SHC, Sub Centres and in transit locations like railway stations and bus stands etc.
Our MORIGAON correspondent adds: The Sub-National Immunisation Day (Polio) campaign was launched on Sunday at the office of the Joint Director of Health Services, Morigaon.
After launching the Sub-National Immunisation Day, the Joint Director of Health Office, Morigaon has started a campaign to vaccinate over 149606 children below five years against polio in the district.
The additional district commissioner Anusuya Sharma (Health) inaugurated the campaign in the presence of Joint Director of Health Dr Arun Nath, Addl CM & HO Dr Tapan Kr Saikia, District Immunisation Officer Dr Niranjan Konwar, DFPC-Baharul Ulum Chowdhary.
The health department has organised 905 polio booths across the district. The programme will be staffed by a total of 3585 booth workers to conduct the campaigns.
Our KOKRAJHAR correspondent adds: Along with the rest of the state, the pulse Polio immunisation drive was carried out on Sunday across Kokrajhar town and the entire district to immunise children below five years of age and protect them from polio.
Masanda Magdalin Pertin, the district commissioner of Kokrajhar, inaugurated the drive at the Rup Nath Brahma Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar amid the presence of medical officers, and staff of the hospital.
The district commissioner was assisted by the District Polio Immunisation Program Officer, Dr D Bhowal.
The initiative aims to ensure complete immunisation and safeguard young children against the threat of polio in the region.
DC Pertin stated that the pulse Polio drive has been carried out across the entire Kokrajhar district, and emphasised to bring healthy health to the below five years of age children. She said that the drive saw a good number of participation from the society at the immunisation centres across the region.
