Kaziranga University hosts international conference on science and sustainability

JORHAT, Feb 17: A two-day international conference titled “International Conference on Bridging Science, Society and Sustainability (ICBSSS 2026)” was recently held at The Assam Kaziranga University, Jorhat. The conference was jointly organised by the Department of Biotechnology and the Department of Mathematics in collaboration with the Women Cell and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC).

The event celebrated the contributions of women and girls in science and brought together academicians, researchers and industry experts from India and abroad. Discussions focused on connecting scientific innovation with societal needs and the goals of sustainable development.

A total of 32 women organisers, supporting members and student volunteers actively contributed to the successful conduct of the conference. Notably, all presentations were delivered by women scientists and researchers, offering a global platform, especially for women researchers from Assam and Northeast India, to showcase their scientific work.

The accepted research papers were compiled and published in an Abstract Book with an ISBN number, marking a significant academic milestone for the conference.

During the inaugural session, keynote addresses were delivered by Dr Richita Saikia from Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research, Dr Priyadarshini Deka, Founder of Axomia Superfood, Professor Ritu Sahni from Nirma University and Dr Banshree Gogoi from Google XR.

On the second day, following offline oral presentations, keynote lectures were delivered by Dr Pallabi Saikia of Nanda Nath Saikia College, Dr Liza Handique of Jagannath Barooah University and Dr Ratna Kalita of Assam Agricultural University.

The valedictory session was graced by Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr) Murari Lal Gaur as the chief guest of honour. The program also featured felicitation of dignitaries, cultural performances and prize distribution. Conference Convener Dr Sumita Sarkar and Coordinators Dr Lipika Khataniar, Dr Gitanjali Baruah, Dr Manasi Kotoki and Bedakshi Baruah stated that the international conference concluded successfully with a strong commitment to promoting inclusive scientific dialogue, strengthening academia–industry collaboration and advancing research-driven sustainable development.
