DIPHU, April 21: The Karbi Cultural Society (KCS) has criticised professor of Cotton University, Guwahati, Dr Gyanendra Barman for his statement in the Tribal Conference at Diphu Govt Boys Higher Secondary School playground, here on April 12 last, as it has hurt the sentiments of the tribe’s people.

The KCS in a press statement said, “Dr Barman saying that those who have left their indigenous faith cannot be termed as a tribe and are not entitled to enjoy the ST privileges. The statement is a policy to divide the tribe people.”

The KCS condemned the statement of Dr Barman and warned that any policy intended to divide the tribe people will not be allowed and KCS will never accept it.

The conference was organised by Janajati Faith & Culture Protection Forum, East & West Karbi Anglong District Committee.
