Kokrajhar admin reviews flood preparedness ahead of monsoon

Departments advised to stock up essentials

KOKRAJHAR, March 16: The District Disaster Management Authority, Kokrajhar convened a meeting on Monday to review flood preparedness in the district ahead of the upcoming monsoon season.

The meeting, held at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s office, was chaired by Kokrajhar Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Chakravarty and attended by heads of various line departments.

During the meeting, Chakravarty urged all departments to remain alert and proactive in preparing for natural disasters.

He asked officials to identify critical infrastructure that could be vulnerable during disasters and take necessary preventive measures.

Circle Officers were instructed to identify vulnerable villages and flood-prone areas based on past flood data and ensure sector-wise coordination during emergency situations.

Officials also discussed the identification of relief camps and raised platforms for affected people and livestock.

Departments were directed to ensure preparedness of essential services, including roads, embankments, power supply, food distribution, health services and drinking water facilities.

The Deputy Commissioner further instructed departments to maintain adequate stocks of essential commodities, organise mobile medical teams, strengthen weak embankments and inspect roads, bridges and culverts ahead of the monsoon.

Emphasising early preparedness and effective inter-departmental coordination, Chakravarty asked all departments to complete the required preparatory measures well in advance of the monsoon to ensure timely response and minimise potential loss of life and property during floods.
