Kokrajhar DC holds meeting with puja committees

KOKRAJHAR, Sept 23: The Kokrajhar district administration held a meeting with the puja committees of Kokrajhar sub-division in connection with the upcoming Durga Puja.

Deputy commissioner of Kokrajhar, Varnali Deka chaired the meeting held in the conference hall of the Election office, Kokrajhar.

In the meeting, attended by additional deputy commissioner, deputy superintendent of police, circle officers, officials of APDCL, PWD (electrical), Health and Family Welfare department, Public Health Engineering department, Fire and Emergency Services, District Disaster Management Authority, presidents and secretaries of puja committees, DC Varnali Deka outlined the guidelines to be followed by the committees in the district.

She said the committees will have to get permission to conduct puja as per the rules. Similarly, permission will have to be obtained from the APDCL for electricity connection.

DC Deka said that adequate lighting should be arranged at the immersion ghat and around the puja pandals, especially to ensure that the venue of the goddess idol is not darkened.

She added that night guards should be deployed by all the puja committees to ensure that no miscreants can cause damage to the idols.

On the other hand, DC Deka instructed the committees to make separate arrangements for entry and exit in their puja pandals as well as to appoint adequate numbers of volunteers.

She also urged them to install CCTV cameras around the places of worship to ensure that no miscreants can cause unpleasant situations.

She advised the committees to ensure that fire extinguishers, including water, sand, etc., are to be kept at all the puja venues.

She gave instructions to the concerned departments on proper arrangements for idol immersion sites, puja committees to ensure that the goddess is immersed within the stipulated time, maintain Covid-19 protocols and cleanliness.

She further informed that the district administration has decided to award the ‘Best Eco-Friendly Puja Committee Award’ to the best three puja committees of the district who will maintain a conducive atmosphere at their places of worship.

DC Deka conveyed her advance greetings to the puja committees and urged them to cooperate with the district administration by following the guidelines.

Deputy superintendent of police Bhaskar Oja was also present at the meeting and he sought cooperation of all to maintain law and order.

He said that each puja committees should ensure that public roads are not blocked while constructing puja pandals.
