GUWAHATI, Oct 23: ‘Kooki’, a full-length Hindi film directed by young filmmaker Pranav J Deka from Assam, climbs the ranks on the OTT platform ‘Amazon Prime’. Within just a month of its release, the film’s reception has been overwhelmingly positive, encouraging its creators. The storyline explores the love, struggles, and challenges faced by a non-Assamese teenager raised in Assam, with elements of Assamese art and culture interwoven throughout.

Released on September 6, the film follows the tragic journey of a 16-year-old girl named Kooki, whose life and dreams are shattered when she becomes a victim of a brutal gang rape. Although the court’s verdict is respected, justice in the case of the gang rape appears far from resolved, as the crime is not adequately addressed by law. The film, based on this story, was later released nationwide on the OTT platform ‘Amazon Prime’. Within a month of its release, more than 1 crore people have set a record by enjoying the film. As a result, ‘Kooki’ has managed to rank first on the list of the top 10 films on Amazon Prime.

Director Pranav J Deka wrote the story, screenplay, and dialogues of ‘Kooki’, with plans by Dr Junmoni Devi Khaund. The film features several Assamese actors who are established in Bollywood, including Kamal Lochan, Vibhuti Bhusan Hazarika, Preeti Konkona, Ranjiv Lal Bora, and many others. It is noteworthy that due to Ritisha Khaund’s bold and challenging performance in the titular role of ‘Kooki’, several top-level filmmakers in Bollywood are reportedly offering roles to her.

Bollywood singers Sunidhi Chauhan, Mohammad Faiz, Divya Kumar, and Kritika Sharma from Assam have lent their voices to the film’s songs. The film was produced by Niri Media (OPC) Private Limited.
