‘Laletapu Yudha’ anthology released in Jamugurihat

BISWANATH CHARIALI, Feb 6: ‘Laletapu Yudha’, an anthology of historic essays compiled by journalist Phanindra Baruah of Jamugurihat, was released at a book launch held inside the exhibition site of the 95th annual conference of Srimanta Sankardev Sangha. The anthology was released by Dr Ranjan Kalita, principal of Rangapara College, who highlighted the historic significance of the brutal killings of indigenous youths by illegal settlers and the Assam agitation.

The event was attended by prominent personalities including Atul Bhattacharya, recipient of the Sishu Bandu title and retired teacher; Shailen Barkataky, state artist pensioner and Anjan Baskota, Sahitya Akademi Yuva Puraskar recipient. The proceedings were conducted by Minku Kalita.

Author Phanindra Baruah also presented a brief foreword on the book. ‘Laletapu Yudha’ commemorates the tragic killing of seven youths by settlers at Laletapu in southern Jamugurihat on March 20, 1983. The programme drew eminent personalities and locals alike, reflecting on the historical events chronicled in the anthology.
