DIPHU, Aug 18: The Karbi Students Association (KSA-Jameson Timung) of Diphu District Committee (DDC) has alleged that one Tarun Rongpi, a Mandal in Diphu Revenue Circle has amassed Rs 40 crore through an illegal way.
Referring to the land compensation scam pertaining to the 4 lanning of NH 36, the student body said that the said amount had been deposited by Rongpi in his bank account.
The student body alleged that the joint secretary of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), incharge of Competent Authority Land Acquisition (CALA) for 4 lane road construction, Tensing Rongpi and revenue officials, including Tarun Rongpi had grabbed land along NH 36.
A mysteriously constituted “Management Committee” is also taking 10 percent of the compensation given against land from the land owners.
KSA demanded that joint secretary Rongpi should be removed from the charge of CALA and that the services of Mandal Rongpi should be terminated.
In a press conference here at District Press Club of Karbi Anglong on Thursday, the president, DDC, Bishnuram Phangcho alleged that Mandals like Tarun Rongpi have 40 plots along the 4 lanes of NH-36 stretches which he has grabbed from the land owners.
President, DDC, Bishnuram Phangcho said, “It is not my saying; it is the data that is saying that Mandal Tarun Rongpi has 40 plots of land along the 4 lane road which he has grabbed through unfair means belonging to genuine land owners. Rongpi has Rs 40 crore in his bank account, the amount which he has collected as percentages from genuine land owners and the compensation he got from the ill-gotten land that he grabbed from land owners,”
He further said, “There is a ‘Management Committee’, but it is quite surprising as to who has constituted the Management Committee. Is it the KAAC authority or Executive Member (EM), KAAC, Land & Revenue, Amarsing Tisso or the Chairman of CALA that has constituted the Management Committee? Or is it the Joint Secretary, Tensing Rongpi or Mandal Tarun Rongpi.”
He further alleged that 10 percent is taken from each genuine land owner against compensation by the Management Committee. He said the people should not let EM Tisso and Mandal Rongpi from coming to their villages for a collection of 10 percent.
The KSA has threatened to go for a road blockade of NH-36 if it fails to remove joint secretary Rongpi as chairman of CALA and to remove Mandal Rongpi from the post of Mandal.
