GOSSAIGAON, Oct 26: Simultapu police led by Sanjay Kumar Rai, i/c, Simultapu police outpost in a raid seized huge quantity of foreign liquor from one container bearing registration number NL-02L-1297 and apprehended one Amal Giri, the handyman of the container from NH-31(C) Srirampur on Wednesday in Kokrajhar district.
While briefing mediapersons about the illegal smuggling of the foreign liquor, Sanjay Kumar Rai said, “On receiving input about the consignment a raid was carried out in Srirampur NH-31(C), and a container was stopped and upon thorough checking, around 130 cartons of foreign liquor were seized successfully.”
He further said, “The consignment was kept hidden in a secret chamber which was made perfectly within the body of the container to befool the police personnel but in vain. Later, with the help of a drill machine the secret chamber was cut and the liquor was seized.”
The container which was seized by Simultapu police was on the way to Siliguri in West Bengal from Guwahati.
The arrested person has been identified as Amal Giri of Motihari district in Bihar.
The value of the seized foreign liquor would be around Rs 5 lakh in the open market, police sources said.
