MARGHERITA, Jan 8: Residents of Margherita town and nearby areas staged a road blockade on the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border road on Tuesday night, demanding urgent repairs to the severely dilapidated route connecting Margherita in Assam to Changlang in Arunachal Pradesh.
The road which falls under ward number 10 of Margherita Municipal Board serves as the only link between the two regions, has fallen into disrepair for an extended period, making it nearly unfit for transport and communication.

Despite numerous complaints and appeals by locals, Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Margherita Co-District Commissioner and concerned department are yet to address the issue.
This has caused agitation among the residents of the surrounding areas.
The blockade brought traffic to a standstill until midnight, as protesters gathered to voice their grievances against Margherita police and Margherita Co-District Commissioner.
The protest ended when officials from the Margherita Co-District administration arrived at the site and assured the residents that immediate action would be taken to resolve the matter.
The locals have reiterated their demand for urgent road repairs emphasising that the condition of the road has become a major obstacle to daily commuters and transporters.
The assurance from authorities has temporarily pacified the protesters, while they continue to insist on timely action.
