BOKAJAN, June 27: A 55-year-old man died after falling from a ramshackle bamboo bridge while fetching medicine for his ailing child on Saturday night.
Hurichand Tokbi (55), a resident of Men Tokbi village under Dillai police station in Karbi Anglong went out on a bicycle to get medicine from Dillai for his daughter on Saturday night. His daughter who is a student of class IX was preparing for her examination and was running a temperature.
While returning with the medicine and negotiating a rickety bamboo bridge over Dillai River in the dark, Tokbi fell down to the river below along with his bicycle. His body was found by villagers this morning.
The bridge is used by four villages, namely, Koilalangso, Men Tokbi, Sarpo Tisso and Kania Rongphar.
The deceased’s wife Homsira Ronghangpi, “Yesterday, in the evening he went out to buy medicine for his eldest daughter who is giving her exam. He did not return last night and instead, we saw his body this morning at 4 am.”
The Dillai police took the man’s body for post-mortem examination to Diphu Medical College & Hospital.
