SIVASAGAR, May 30:
A massive fire on Monday night gutted the reputed garment store ‘Arun’s’ in Hospital Road which is owned by Ashok Agarwal and sons.
The fire is suspected to have been caused by an electrical short circuit and was brought under control after over twenty hours of hectic efforts by about twenty fire tenders from ONGC, Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Nazira. Police, SDRF men, and the Disaster Management team are still working together to douse the fire completely till the filing of this report.
Ashok Agarwal told this correspondent that over Rs 25 to 30 lakh of garments were reduced to ashes. There was no casualty as the owner’s family, living on the second floor, could escape through a hotel after climbing a side wall.
