Meghalaya artist Raphael Warjri honoured with Pranab Baruah Artist Award

Ceremony at Nagaon Kalakshetra strengthens cultural ties between Meghalaya and Assam

NAGAON, Feb 22:  Prominent Meghalaya artist Raphael Warjri was conferred with the Pranab Baruah Artist award at a function held at Nagaon Pranab Baruah Kalakshetra on Sunday here.

Receiving the award, Warjri said it would inspire him and strengthen the bond between Meghalaya and Assam. 

The function was attended by Pranab Baruah’s family members, including his grandson. Noted poet Dr Prayag Saikia recited a poem in memory of the late artist Pranab Baruah. Noted artist Gokul Chetri praised Pranab Baruah’s contributions to art, saying he had created works that would be remembered globally. 

Local MLA Rupak Sarma, attended the event as the chief guest, said Baruah’s art had brought glory to Nagaon and Assam. He praised the decision to confer the award on Warjri, saying it was a fitting tribute to the late artist. 

The award comprised a citation, a memento and a cash prize of Rs 25,000.
