Minister chairs review meet to boost tourism and rural development

KHERONI, July 30: In a bid to strengthen rural development and promote Karbi Anglong as a premier tourist destination, Cabinet Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting at the Kazir Ronghangpi Guest House in Taralangso, Diphu.

Dass, who holds the portfolios of Panchayat and Rural Development (P&RD), Tourism, Law and Justice, and General Administration Department (GAD), reviewed the progress of key departments including Tourism, the Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, and P&RD.

The meeting aimed to align development goals with the state government’s broader vision of making Karbi Anglong a major tourism hub, both within Assam and at the national level.

The meeting was attended by Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) Chairman Raju Tisso and Executive Members Ritesh Enghi, Madhuram Lekthe, Madhurjya Dhekial Phukan, and Tiluttoma Hasnu.

Senior officials including the District Commissioner of Karbi Anglong, KAAC officials, district development officers, and representatives of various departments also participated in the review.

Emphasising the region’s natural beauty and cultural heritage, Dass reiterated the government’s commitment to sustainable development and tourism-driven economic growth.

The discussions highlighted strategic initiatives focused on infrastructure enhancement, eco-tourism promotion, and showcasing Karbi Anglong’s diverse landscapes and traditions. The government is expected to roll out a series of targeted initiatives to attract tourists and boost livelihoods in the region in the coming days.
