Mentioning about the profound history of the Karbi community Sarma said that history of the community dates back to 3000 BC and that the Karbi society has been moving forward through the practise of Honghari faith, the traditional belief system based on clan and ancestors.

The Chief Minister inaugurated multiple projects costing a total of Rs 168 crore for Karbi Anglong in Diphu.

Addressing the gathering he said that the Karbis developed in culture and language from Rongkhang and even has the Ramayan in the epic poem Sabin Alun.

He further said, “The Karbis have known the Ramayan in the form of Sabin Alun. In Karbi tradition the number nine holds a significant importance. Before numerology was prevalent, the Karbis belief of holding the number 9 in importance proves that the tribe has the knowledge of numbers.”

Sarma said the Karbi society has always maintained a rich socio-cultural tradition and a firm belief in the ancient system of faith.

The chief minister further said that the rich cultures of the Karbis originated in the Rongkhang area and that it is from this area that the Karbis established twelve capitals from which they practised Karbi rules and rituals, traditions and culture.
