Assam Govt mulling to set up trenching ground in Silchar: Singhal

SILCHAR, May 20: Assam Government led by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma is mulling over for a period of time for setting up of a trenching ground at Silchar. This was stated by the minister for Urban Development & Irrigation and Guardian minister for Cachar, Ashok Singhal here on Friday.

Earlier on Friday morning, minister Singhal visited the site of the trenching ground at Meherpur along with Silchar Legislator Dipayan Chakraborty, Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli, executive officer, SMB, Ashutosh Deka and chairman, Cachar Zilla Parishad, Amitabh Rai.
Minister Singhal also inspected the site of the existing trenching ground and took stock of the situation.
While addressing the media the Guardian minister Singhal said, “After Guwahati, Silchar is the second urban sprawl in the entire state and a place like Silchar which is densely populated requires a proper garbage management system. Considering these aspects, our government has already planned for the setting up of a trenching ground at the existing place.”
“Assam Government has formulated a plan and as a Guardian minister of this district, I already had a discussion with CM Himanta Biswa Sarma, who is also keen on the infrastructural development of the city,” minister Singhal added.
“Today I have visited this place and will have a round of talks with Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli and other concerned officials associated with this project regarding preparation of a master plan for setting up of a trenching ground so that a proper garbage disposal can be made maintaining hygiene and ensure trenching ground doesn’t cause any kind of pollution to the neighbouring areas,” mentioned minister Singhal.
“We seek cooperation from the people in the government’s noble effort for making this city a better place to live,” quipped minister Singhal.
Later on the day, minister Singhal along with Cachar DC Keerthi Jalli, chairman, Zilla Parishad, Amitabh Rai and other officials of various departments visited flood affected areas under Katigorah assembly constituency.
Minister Singhal also visited 380 No Mohanpur LP School, 715 Madua LP School, Mahadevpur, Jalalpore area
Balicherra BOP BSF Camp, Gumrah Public ME School, Bikrampur Golaknath High school and 1247 Hurauli LP School.
Minister Singhal also visited flood affected areas of Borkhola constituency.
During his visit, Singhal inspected the relief works and instructed the officials and staff engaged in conducting rescue operations and health officials to ensure healthcare facilities to the flood victims in the relief camps.
