GUWAHATI, March 13: A woman hailing from Nepal finally reunited with her family after four years in Assam. She was arrested by Assam police in November 2018 in the Cachar district from the Indo-Bangladesh border.

As per reports, the woman had been missing since 2018 and was later traced at the Silchar detention center in Assam’s Cachar district. The concerned authorities on Sunday handed her to her family.

The woman has been recognized as Jannat Khatun, a 62-year-old, whom the police nabbed from the Indo-Bangladesh border in the district in the month of November 2018 followed by the court sending her to Silchar central jail.

In the course of handing over to her family, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahanta stated that the woman was arrested by police from the Katigorah area in the Cachar district four years back as she had illegally entered India without proper identification and valid documents. The accused served two years of imprisonment under the Passports Act, of 1967.

Mahanta further said that the administration informed the Nepal consulate general, and after the confirmation from the Nepal government that the woman is a Nepalese national, the Nepal consulate general interacted with the Assam and Central governments. As per the orders of the government, the lady was handed over to her family members and the Indian Government provided an ambulance and security to the lady as her health condition is not so pleasant.
