Morigaon district commissioner announces polling logistics

MORIGAON, March 18: District election officer and district commissioner of Morigaon district, Devashish Sharma, held a press conference at the meeting room of the District Commissioner’s Office on Monday. He told reporters that the second phase of polling will be held on April 26 in five Lok Sabha constituencies in the state, including Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency. The notification for this phase of polling will be issued in March. The deadline for submission of nominations is April 4, and nominations will be examined in April. The deadline for withdrawal of nominations for this phase is April. Counting of votes will be held on June 4, and the entire election process will be completed by June. The second phase of polling will be held in three assembly constituencies of Morigaon constituency under Nagaon constituency, namely the 52nd Jagiroad (SC), 53rd Laharighat, and 54th Morigaon assembly constituency respectively.

In Morigaon constituency, there are 3,64,040 male voters, 3,55,876 female voters, and 12 third gender voters. There are 911 polling stations in the Morigaon constituency. Of these, 29 polling stations will be managed by women only, and six polling stations will be set up as model polling stations. The model centers are 146 Jagi MV Schools (East) and 147 Jagi MV Schools (West) in Jagiroad Assembly constituency, 62 Bhuragaon Colleges (East) and 63 Bhuragaon Colleges (North) in Lahrighat constituency, and 123 Charaibahi Higher Secondary Schools in Morigaon constituency (right) and 124 Charaibahi Higher Secondary School (left). There are three polling stations run by youths only. They are 302 Aujari Primary School (South) in Jagiroad constituency, 84 Bhuragaon Hospital Road Primary School (West) in Lahrighat constituency, and 133 Jaluguti Higher Secondary School (Central) in Morigaon constituency. The polling station will be operated by people with disabilities at 47 Morigaon Higher Secondary and Multipurpose School (West) in Morigaon constituency. 35 polling stations are considered vulnerable, and 29 polling stations are considered critical in the district. There are 10,549 voters aged 18 to 19 and 82,411 senior citizen voters in Morigaon constituency. There are 215 centenarian voters and 3,727 voters over the age of 85 in the district.

The district commissioner said wheelchairs, postal ballots, etc., will be provided to the sick and disabled. He added that postal ballots would also be arranged for voters involved in essential services, including the media, as required. He said the Model Code of Conduct came into force in Morigaon district as soon as the Election Commission of India announced the date of the polls. In fact, it is the conscience of the people that can ensure compliance with the Model Code of Conduct, he said, adding that he sought the cooperation of all to complete the peaceful, healthy, and fair elections. If any violation of the Model Code of Conduct is noticed, the complaint can be submitted on the c-Vigil app or by calling the toll-free number 1950 of the Control Room, he said. He said the administration, police, flying squad, expenditure monitoring committee, and various cells will be on alert to prevent such violations as soon as the election code of conduct comes into force. Additional district commissioner (election) Sulakshana Barpathragohain and election officer Jagriti Kalwar were present at the press conference.
