NAGAON, Aug 12: National Librarians’ Day was observed on Saturday at Mahapurusha Srimanta
Sankaradeva Viswavidyalaya (MSSV), Nagaon to commemorate 131st birth anniversary of Dr SR
Ranganathan, the father of Library Science in India.
The programme was started with the inaugural address by Prof Mridul Hazarika, vice-chancellor of MSSV
preceding a welcome address by Debabrat Senapati, assistant librarian & in-charge, central library,
MSSV. The attendees also paid floral tribute to the portrait of Padmashri Dr S R Ranganathan.
Dr Hazarika briefly depicts about the epoch-making contribution by Dr S R Ranganathan for his
relentless efforts to the field of library movement in India.
To mark the occasion, a webinar on the topic ‘significance of library in academic perspective’ was also
organised by the central library of the varsity here. As the keynote speaker of the webinar, Mrinal Kr
Gogoi, assistant professor, department of social work, MSSV delivered an insightful lecture stressing on
digitalisation of learning resources for the accessibility of library every nook and corner. Needless to be
mentioned that in the era of Google so many resources are available on the web, but it is too much
important to know the authenticity of the reading materials for which one can easily rely on the library
as it has been playing a pivotal role in disseminating the right information to the right user at the right
time leading towards the creation of knowledge society, he added.
The event was also attended by the assistant librarian of Majuli Cultural University Shekharjyoti Neog
with his splendid talk regarding various dimensions of library as a whole.
Along with other dignitaries, professors, employees, research scholars and students also took part in the
event which was concluded with the technical support by the University employee named Rubul Das,
Bidhan Chandra Bora and Sankarmoni Bora. Tanmaya Sarmah, library professional assistant, central
