HOJAI, Oct 15: The Hojai Municipal Board (HMB) declared the results of the Clean, Green and Plastic-Free Durga Puja Competition 2025 on Wednesday evening, recognising Durga Puja committees for their efforts in maintaining hygiene and sustainability during the festive season.
Held among 57 Durga Puja committees within the Hojai municipal area, the award ceremony took place at the HMB Hall. The event was presided over by HMB president Chaturthi Rani Biswas with Hojai MLA Ramakrishna Ghosh attending as chief guest.

The program began with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp and floral tribute before a portrait of Assamese icon Zubeen Garg. Executive Officer Ashim Jyoti Kalita outlined the objectives of the competition, stressing HMB’s goal to raise awareness around cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
Jury member Nitai Chandra Das shared insights from their visits to the puja pandals where cleanliness and use of eco-friendly materials were closely observed before making the final selections.
MLA Ramakrishna Ghosh, in his address, emphasised that keeping Hojai clean and plastic-free is collective responsibility. He urged citizens to actively contribute towards achieving a cleaner district.
To encourage participation, all 57 Durga Puja committees received certificates of appreciation and Nahar saplings. The top three awards were presented to: First Prize: Abhinab Durga Puja Committee (Bishnupally), Second Prize: Sri Sri Satyanarayan Mandir Puja Committee (Nepali Temple), Shivbari Road, Third Prize: Ramakrishna Seva Ashram Durga Puja Committee
Consolation prizes were awarded to five committees: Bordoloi Colony, Harijan Colony, Geeta Mandir, Bayboshai (Gala Patty) and Krishna Nagar Boys Sporting Club. All awardees received trophies and certificates.
