NAGAON, Nov 10: As per directive of Indian Railways, district administration well equipped with sufficient police as well as para military forces, led by the circle officer, Nagaon Sadar – K. Ishan Singh on Thursday carried out a massive eviction drive against encroachment of railway land at Nagaon railway station colony near Morikolong under Nagaon PS.

During the drive, the administration demolished over hundreds of houses of encroachers on both sides of the railway track near the railway colony.

Sources claimed that the district administration issued notices to over a thousand encroachers a couple of weeks back urging them to co-operate with the administration in this regard by shifting away from the railway land.

Significantly, after receiving the notification from the administration, many of them abandoned their respective houses and shifted to other places for which the eviction drive that was carried out on Thursday was quite peaceful. No incidents of scuffle between the police or para military forces and encroachers were reported till the time of filing this report, sources said.
