NAGAON, Sept 24: The Nagaon district Excise Department, led by superintendent of Excise, Nagaon Boris Bordoloi, carried out a massive drive against illegal local liquor in the Batahbari, Bhumuraguri, and Saharia areas under Dhing Excise Circle early on Tuesday morning and destroyed several thousand litres of fermented waste and illicitly distilled liquor, sources said.
Sources claimed that during the drive, the excise teams dismantled over 19 sets of distillation apparatus and apprehended four individuals allegedly involved in the production of illegal local liquor. The department registered over 11 cases in this regard under sections 53(1) and (2) of the Assam Excise Act 2000, and section 35(3) of BNSS. However, the remaining accused, who had been involved in the production of local liquor for a long time, managed to escape from the excise teams during the drive, sources added.
It was reported that during the operation, the Nagaon Excise Department, with the assistance of Nagaon police and CRPF personnel, destroyed 8,000 litres of fermented waste, 250 litres of illicitly distilled liquor, 150 litres of Pachwai, and 19 sets of distillation apparatus at the sites.
