Nagaon LS candidate Abu Shama arrested on charge of sexual harassment

NAGAON, May 19: Abu Shama, who had contested as an independent candidate from the Nagaon parliamentary constituency in the recently held Lok Sabha polls, was arrested on charge of sexual harassment, blackmailing and extortion of money from a female victim hailing from Juria area.

Shama was arrested by the police on Saturday evening. He was produced him before a local court on Sunday. The court remanded him to judicial custody. It’s reported that Abu Shama who had been illegally running a pharmacy at Juria Bazar, posted a sexual video with the victim on a social media platform a few days back, sources added.

Sources claimed that the victim lodged an FIR regarding sexual harassment as well as extortion of money against the independent candidate a couple of days back at the office of the superintendent of police in Nagaon. In her complaint she asserted that Shama had already looted several lakhs of rupees in various installments from the female by threatening her with dare consequences.

When the female had come to his pharmacy for medical purposes, Shama allegedly injected her with medicine to make her unconscious and shot some nude videos of hers, sources said. Thereafter, he continued harassing and blackmailing her, threatening to make the videos viral.

Meanwhile, in connection with another case related to the same episode, the same police arrested two local scribes of digital media identified as Saddam Hussain and Khairul Islam on charge of blackmailing and extortion.

According to sources, the scribes had telecasted a news item regarding sexual harassment and blackmailing of another woman by Shama a couple of days ago.

Following the news, Shama lodged an FIR in the Juria Police Station, in which he alleged that both scribes had demanded money from him for not filing the news in their respective digital media houses, sources added further.
