TEZPUR, Dec 11: The Sonitpur Press Club on Wednesday evening conferred the Narendra Dev Shastri Memorial Award 2025 on noted author, critic and Professor of Assamese at Tezpur University, Dr Binita Bora Devchoudhur, during a ceremony at the Tezpur Sahitya Sabha Bhawan.
Receiving the honour, Dr Devchoudhury expressed her gratitude, noting that recognition in her birthplace was “the ultimate fulfilment of life.” She fondly remembered scholar Narendra Dev Shastri as a “guru of life whose academic journey extended far beyond the classroom,” and reflected on Tezpur’s formative influence on her academic and creative pursuits.
The event was chaired by senior advocate and Press Club president Subhash Chandra Biswas, with proceedings anchored by acting president Pankaj Baruah. On behalf of the Award Committee, Dr Devchoudhury received an Aronai, Cheleng, a bundle of books, a commemorative plaque, a brass Jaapi, a citation and a cash award. Felicitations were presented by Shastri’s wife Kanakalata Devi, Tezpur MLA Prithviraj Rabha, District Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das, educationist Mahendra Nath Keot, Dr Ramesh Chandra Goswami and president Biswas.
The event witnessed participation from several dignitaries, representatives of various organisations and residents of Tezpur, celebrating both scholarly achievements and Assamese cultural heritage.
