BILASIPARA, Jan 11 – Bilasipara witnessed a historic and vibrant display of unity and cultural pride as the Nath-Yogi community took out a massive cultural procession at Alengmari, organised by the All Assam Nath-Yogi Students’ Union. More than 25,000 men and women, dressed in traditional attire, participated in the colourful rally, showcasing the rich heritage and distinct identity of the Nath-Yogi community.
The grand procession was inaugurated by popular actress Mousumi Alifa, known for her role in Zubeen Garg’s last film Roi Roi Binale. Speaking on the occasion, the actress said that although the Nath-Yogi community is culturally rich, it has remained backward in several sectors and deserves equal development opportunities along with other communities.

The procession was part of a two-day Annual General Meeting and Nath-Yogi Youth Festival being held at the Shaheed Manbar Nath Samannay Kshetra in Nayapara village of Alengmari. The programme began with the hoisting of the organisational flag by Central president Arvind Nath, followed by the unveiling of the community’s cultural flag and floral tributes at the martyrs’ memorial. Homage was also paid to Yogi Guru Gorakhnath, legendary singer Dr Bhupen Hazarika and cultural icon Zubeen Garg.
A poetry collection titled Yugir Mahal was released during a poets’ meet held after an interaction with journalists. The first day concluded with a grand cultural evening featuring various performances. On the second day, the massive cultural procession marched through Alengmari with thousands of Nath-Yogi men and women carrying traditional symbols and banners, highlighting their long-standing cultural legacy.
Addressing the gathering, Central president Arvind Nath demanded strong and concrete steps from the Chief Minister for the socio-economic, educational, political, linguistic and cultural development of the Nath-Yogi community. The programme concluded with a public meeting chaired by Arvind Nath, where more than a thousand Nath-Yogi women presented a melodious group song dedicated to the community.
The meeting was addressed by several prominent leaders, including KAC Chief Executive Member Jibesh Ray, BTC Executive Member Karmeshwar Ray, AASU president Utpal Sharma, All Assam Tai Ahom Students’ Union president Milan Buragohain, Koch-Rajbongshi Students’ Union general secretary Balaram Barman and leaders of various other organisations. The leaders unanimously called for inclusive and equal development of all communities in Assam.
The two-day event concluded with a colourful cultural programme by invited artistes, marking a memorable celebration of Nath-Yogi heritage and unity.
