The event was presided over by Dr Manoj Gogoi, President of the IMA Margherita branch, while the welcome address was delivered by Pabitra Borgohain, Secretary of the Margherita Sub-District Branch of the Indian Red Cross Society.

In his speech, Borgohain explained the significance of National Doctors’ Day, which is observed annually on July 1 in honour of the birth and death anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy — a renowned physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal.

He noted that the Government of India officially designated the date as National Doctors’ Day in 1991 to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of doctors to society.

As part of the celebrations, 36 doctors from the Margherita co-district region were felicitated for their dedicated service.

Each doctor was presented with a traditional Assamese phoolam gamosa, a certificate of appreciation, and a memento as a token of gratitude and recognition.

A highlight of the day’s event was an awareness session on the topic “Mental Health and its Disorders”, addressed by Dr P K Choudhury, retired Head of the Department of Psychiatry at Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh.

Dr Choudhury, serving as the resource person, expressed concern over rising mental health issues such as stress, depression, and anxiety.

He urged the gathering to maintain a healthy lifestyle, engage in regular physical activity, practice meditation, eat nutritious food, and avoid overthinking and unnecessary worry.
