National Education Day observed at Jagiroad College

JAGIROAD, Nov 11: Jagiroad College observed National Education Day on Tuesday, commemorating the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, with a popular talk on the theme ‘Gender Literacy in Creative Arts’. The event was organised by the IQAC in association with the Department of Education and the Institution’s Innovation Council (IIC).

Dr Jharna Choudhury, Assistant Professor of Dimoria College, was the resource person for the programme. The session began with a welcome address by Dr Srijani Das, Head of the Department of Education, who highlighted the role of education and creative expression in promoting gender understanding. Dr Lipika Boruah hosted the event, while Bikashita Borah introduced the resource person.

In his address, Dr Chitta Ranjan Sarkar, Coordinator, IQAC, elaborated on the concept of gender literacy, stressing the need for equal participation of all genders in education, art and public life. He also recalled the historical intellectual equality exemplified in the debate between Ubhaya Bharti and Adi Shankaracharya and urged students to draw inspiration from figures like Rani Lakshmibai and Rani Gaidinliu.

Dr Jharna Choudhury, in her presentation, discussed the evolving intersection of art and artificial intelligence, while highlighting women’s contributions to traditional Indian art forms such as Alpana, Lippan and Madhubani painting.

The programme concluded with an interactive session and a vote of thanks by Dr Pallabi Devi. The event successfully underscored how gender literacy and creativity together can advance equality and cultural enrichment in the vision of a Viksit Bharat 2047.
