The event, organised by Special Olympics Bharat Assam in collaboration with the Social Welfare department of the Assam government, was inaugurated by state Finance and Social Welfare minister Ajanta Neog, who was present as the chief guest.

The fest was organised coinciding with Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

Hailing the initiative, the minister said that the primary aim of holding the fest was to provide a platform to the specially-able children to show their talent and for their holistic development.

She hoped that the health check up of the specially-abled children would be done and awareness on consumption of healthy and nutritious food would be imparted to the guardian.

Another aspect on which Neog emphasised was registration of the specially-abled children on the app ‘Swavilamban’ to avail the unique disability card.

The minister said that the card is given to those children suffering from any of the 23 disabilities determined by the Centre and is essential to avail the benefits granted to the specially-abled by the Centre.

Later, while talking to media persons, she said that she would urge the chief minister and the Sports minister to make the stadiums accessible for the specially-abled ones.

Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by state Social Welfare principal secretary Mukesh Sahu.
