National Press Day celebrated through a joint initiative of the Sonitpur District Administration and the Public Relations Department

56 journalists felicitated with appreciation letters

Tezpur, Nov 16: Along with the rest of the country, National Press Day was celebrated today in Sonitpur district through a joint initiative of the District Administration and the District Information and Public Relations Office. The event was held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das.

In the event themed “Protecting the credibility of journalism in the midst of misinformation”, Prof. Dr. Abhijit Bora, senior faculty member of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism at Tezpur Central University, attended as the keynote speaker and delivered his address on the importance of credible journalism in today’s era.

The programme began with the National Anthem. Two retired journalists of the district were felicitated with a phulam gamosa and a certificate of honour. In addition, all journalists present at the event were also felicitated with a phulam gamosa. Furthermore, 56 journalists recognized by the Public Relations Department received appreciation letters from the Sonitpur District Administration, which were handed over by the Deputy Commissioner himself.

In his welcome speech, Deputy Commissioner Ananda Kumar Das highlighted the significance of National Press Day and extended best wishes to all journalists of the district on this special occasion.

During the event, local journalist Shri Arnav Kumar Nath spoke about the challenges currently faced by the media. The programme was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Barchalla, Kamal Baruah, several journalists of Sonitpur district, District Information and Public Relations Officer Ankita Gogoi, and departmental staff.
