KOKRAJHAR, Feb 22: Under a starlit sky, the town of Kokrajhar witnessed a historic event as the NCC North Eastern Region (NER) Directorate and the Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Government organised the Kokrajhar NCC Marathon.
The event, featuring the 42 KM full Marathon, half Marathon, 10 KM and 5 KM categories, drew over 2,000 participants and showcased the pinnacle of endurance and discipline.
A 78-year-old woman from Shillong, Meghalaya, celebrated her birthday by participating in and successfully completing the 42 km full marathon held in Kokrajhar on Sunday.
The elderly runner took part in the marathon, drawing applause from participants and spectators alike. Her achievement was hailed as a powerful message promoting healthy living, active ageing and the spirit of “Run for Peace”.
The early morning flag-off ceremony was led by Maj Gen Anurag Vij, ADG, NCC NER, alongside Nayan K Barua, ED & Refinary Head IOCL Bogaigaon, Brig N C Khuman, Commander NCC GP HQ Guwahati, Brig KJ Singh, DDG, NCC NER Directorate senior officials. Their presence underscored the commitment to nation building and youth empowerment.
The event was elevated by the presence of star runner Ringky Brahma, who inspired local youth and cultural performances by Anaya Brahma. Emcee Yankee Parasar kept the crowd energised throughout.
NCC Cadets participated prominently in all categories, showcasing extraordinary stamina. Daboimiki Mulieh emerged as the Overall Marathon winner, completing the Full Marathon. The event concluded with medal presentations and felicitations, lauding the organisers for their flawless execution and commitment to promoting unity and discipline.
The NCC NER Directorate and BTC Government were hailed for their efforts in making the event a success, with special recognition for the outliers of the day. The event marked a new chapter for sports in BTC, attracting elite athletes and promoting inclusivity.
