JORHAT, Jan 7: National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar extolled the role played by women in driving the country’s development during the ‘She is a Changemaker’ capacity-building workshop held at Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) on Tuesday.
Rahatkar, who was the chief guest, spoke about the significant contributions of women across India in diverse sectors such as science, technology, agriculture, entrepreneurship and governance. She urged women to step forward and participate even more actively in the nation’s development process.
NCW Additional Secretary Radhika Chakravarthy also addressed the workshop, highlighting ongoing women empowerment initiatives in the country. Among the trainers were Assam Women’s University faculty member Aditya Borborah and District Technical Expert of Assam State Rural Livelihood Mission, Ankita Bharali. The event was attended by State Government Additional Secretary of the Women and Child Department, Assam, Abhijit Sinha.
The workshop began with a welcome address by Jorhat Additional District Commissioner Sultana Akhtara Ahmed.
Following the workshop, Chairperson Rahatkar interacted with beneficiaries of the ‘Namo Drone Didi Scheme’ and other government welfare initiatives at Jorhat Circuit House. On Monday, she also chaired a review meeting with district administration officials led by Jorhat District Commissioner Jay Shivani to discuss the implementation of women-centric programs.
